What is a Vigilante?
The word vigilante came about between 1825 and 1835 and is defined by the Dictionary.com website as a member of a vigilance committee. It also describes a vigilante as anyone who takes the law into their own hands while avenging a crime. A vigilante can be part of a group or act as a vigilante alone.
This word Vigilante doesn’t make headlines often. In fact most people associate a vigilante with a crime fighter or fictitious superhero like Batman. They always do what is right and make sure justice is served when the proper authorities can provide the justice that is needed. It’s the guy or girl that punishes the bad guy when our justice system fails to provide justice.
Many would automatically associate a vigilante as someone who beats up and restrains the villain or bad guy. However more and more cases of vigilante efforts result the death of the accused. An accusation of theft can quick result in the death of the accused whether guilty or not.
Vigilante Justice is justice carried out by Vigilantes.
